Congratulations! You’re getting this assessment because we’re interested to learn more about you.

These assessment questions are geared at helping us understand how you write, how you think about visualizing data, and how you think through tough analytical questions. We encourage you to spend no more than a couple of hours in total to answer these questions.

Writing Prompt:

  • Choose either the recent New Home Sales or Residential Construction as a focus indicator.
  • Please give us no more than 2 paragraphs of key takeaways from the most recent indicator release. Have a focus on what the report or stat means for one or more of our key consumer audiences: buyers, sellers, renters, homeowners, etc.

Data Viz:

  • Please provide 3 visualizations of your choosing based on the sample Realtor.com data (top 50 metros & US data) that showcase key takeaways or interesting insights & trends from the data.
  • Write up a few summary bullets to accompany the visualizations.

Analytics Challenge:

  • A reporter wants to know about what share of recent sales or listings are coming from Boomers aging out/dying or leaving their homes for inheritances. How would you go about this analysis? What kind of questions would you ask of the reporter or of the data?
  • Hint: Assume you have access to the data in the table as listed on the next page. In your answer, speak to how you would handle data quality and what you would need in order to have confidence in the insights.

Research Opportunity:

  • What is the biggest question facing the housing market or key participants (professionals, consumers, industry vendors) that you would want to tackle in this role?
  • What data would you use to answer that question?
